‘Moment you realise you fought through life for nothing’
A Chum
I started work at first light and finished each day as the light faded, and I could no longer see what I was doing. I worked on the hypothesis that it’s probably not a good idea to be blindly swinging a drawknife around the place, even if it does need a bit of a sharpen.
As I worked, I distilled 46 years into 3 days, following a single thought to its logical, and illogical, possible, conclusions. At the end of it all I was none the wiser. Really, nothing new there, then!
As I considered the chair I was reminded of a wise man’s words from long ago:
In this world … there are three things of value for one who gives.
What are these things?
Before giving, the mind of the giver is happy.
While giving, the mind of the giver is made peaceful.
After having given, the mind of the giver is uplifted.
So, once in a while, I make an Offering Chair; it turns out that this appears to be one. If you like it, you can take it away.
All I ask is that you make a small, sincere, offering to one of the following:
- Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery – https://tenzinpalmo.com/
- Pieta House – https://www.pieta.ie/
- Dogs Trust – https://www.dogstrust.ie/
- Peter McVerry Trust – https://pmvtrust.ie/
It’s just a chair; very simple and nothing special, with a few visible tool marks for good measure.
